Within Temptation – Candles

Take away These hands of darkness Reaching for my soul Now, the cold wind, blows out my candles Feeling, only fear, without any hope A thousand dark moons A thousand winters long A million fallen stars, the candle burns in the womb We try not to forget, they live through us Slowly they die away at every candle's end A thousand dark moons A thousand winters long A million fallen stars, the candle burns in the womb We try not to forget They live through us Slowly they die away at every candle's end

i so miss the within temptation’s doom era. this is utterly beautiful

  3. Seelenstriptease says:

I miss this era too. After “The Silent Force” I never bought any album of them. I don’t like their new style…
The best CDs of them were “Enter” (and the Demo tape) and “The Dance”.

I love “Candles” but could somebody explain the lyrics. I never really understood them… :D

  4. Seelenstriptease says:

Who is meant with “they” in this song?

  5. Marguerite21 says:

I know what you mean. I kind of didn’t understand until eventually. The lyrics have great meaning even if this song is very sad. See, this song is dedicated to those who suffer from anything terrible. I got two impressions. One, this song is about some hopeful people who’ve fought and died for change. For freedom. But the second impression can be about an abused person who dies a slow death. Candles is really a meaning of lifeforce.

its really a beauitful song. I agree with Marguerite21 when you say its about abuse. I think its mainly about abuse though, just from what i feel personally and how i interpret the song…

@Seelenstriptease People who have died- like a candle vigil

  8. Mooyouhooka says:

I think people are trying to overthink the lyrics, though I guess what is important is making it mean something to you, so I guess there’s no wrong way to see it. But she does sing a lot of songs about someone going missing, and this struck me like a candle vigil- trying to remember someone lost, but they are gone, like the candles. They live only through us.

I don`t know why, but it makes me think at death. You know, when someone dies, we use to burn candles, and the song is so sad and somehow…paintfull..
“We try not to forget /they live trought us “. Like, we try not to forget their image, how they were, they, the ones we loved and they have died…

@Marguerite21 there can be no peace. not until all of our enemies are dead. and not just the men, but the women and the children. only when none oppose us will there be peace.

  14. Marguerite21 says:

@MrLordGarnett what you say is true. But I can’t help having to say that I hope world peace will come. Many people wish the same thing I wish. Although not all don’t wish peace, I blame it all on the negative interpretations of religon. It’s one of the great causes of chaos and despair. Humans repeating history is another cause. Greed, arrogance, and hypocricy is a cause and even not learning how to appreciate life is another cause as well. Lastly, lack of educating ourselves is another too.

  15. Marguerite21 says:

I don’t know what you think, but I’m cerious to know one thing. Do you think I’m right or wrong about those causes of chaos?

  16. dexterdolphin says:

@EternalDreamspace I totally agree with you EternalDreamspace. I love ALL of their music & some of my fave songs are from their new albums.

  17. NotNowJohn100 says:

    @Marguerite21 AMEN!!!!! You are Correct.

  18. MrLordGarnett says:

@Marguerite21 i think you are correct.

  19. TearisShatteredMoon says:

@dexterdolphin It comes down to the eternal trap of any artist that stays around long…. if they stay the same they get bored and others call them repetitive…. but God forbid *Sarcastic grin* that they change adapt and experiment they are attacked for “selling out” it’s bullshit let the artist explore who they are!!!!

I agree their music is lovely even utopia which is not usually my style

  20. MacrosTheNaked says:

@EternalDreamspace Possibly because I’m not a massive fanboy, and I only appreciate music I actually like, rather then worshipping everything a certain band makes simply because it’s said band?

I love this album and went to many WT gigs, but stopped the second they started making the poppy, melodic bullshit they’re on to now.

  21. EternalDreamspace says:

@MacrosTheNaked You don’t have to be a “fanboy” or girl to appreciate the work of a group you enjoy. And assume that I or others who love everything they’ve done are only into it because they’re forcing themselves is ridiculous.

Lastly, they’re music is far from pop and isn’t bullshit. You just didn’t appear to appreciate their originality as much as you claimed to before and can’t get into it now.

  22. Deltaxray7 says:

This is a awesome group. as for their music, I’d call 99 percent of it “Inspired”

But I’m not a “FAN”. Either the music elevates my soul or it doesn’t.
has nothing to do with a “Group”

  23. pologf2 says:

if you like this great music you are a fan of it.so lets get inspired of it WT *rocks*

  24. missycouture77 says:

    Simply Amazing xD

  25. MargitHjukse says:
